Legoquest challenge weeks 4-6

Here are the most recent Legoquest challenges:

Two-Dimensional
"2-D house" by Vlad
"On the right is a fountain of joy. On the left is the house. It has very little room on the outside, but when you go inside it is as big as a hotel!"

"Mini house" by Wolf
"This is a small house with a chimney. It is built into a hill. It is very simple and can be made by you."

Tools

"sunrise hammer" on left by Vlad
"Sunrise hammer can only be used at night. If you use it in the morning, your refrigerator will mutate and come alive."

"Hoe" in the middle, "hammer" on right, both by Wolf
"These are special tools because they are green and match."

Creature

 "The Destroyer" by Vlad
"This creature will destroy any precious ore. It lives underground. It has lego blocks representing carnelian (orange), gold (yellow), emerald (green), Lapis Lazuli (blue), obsidian (black). He will wreck these into chunks of dust!"

"Yellow creature with wings" by Wolf
"You might see the wings, they look like they are in the background. It is actually a robot designed to protect mankind. A person is driving it named Bobflop the Hero. It can fly because it has wings. It can generate energy from the Sun and then shoot light energy at its enemy."

Insects vs. Spiders

Today we did a science project called Insects vs. spiders. We read a few books about spiders and insects. Then we looked up some facts on the internet. We watched Microcosmos and tried to identify if the "bugs" were insects or spiders by using the facts we learned. Wolfie drew a diagram of a spider and an insect. Finally we made a Venn diagram to show what we learned when we compared and contrasted insects and spiders.
     Some of our favorite facts:
~Both insects and spiders are arthropods. They wear their skeletons outside of their bodies as thin shells.
~Spiders are arachnids.
~ Not all spiders make webs, but they all make silk.
~ Some insects can make webs.
~ An easy way to tell them apart is by counting their legs. 6 legs= insects. 8 legs = spider.

In the summer, we hope to find lots of bugs to collect and compare.
Signing out,

lego challenge

We started the Legoquestkids challenge. There are 52 challenges, which is one a week. We completed weeks 1-3 already. You can see all the challenges here

Here is week 1, the theme was building a car.

Vlad made a remote control car with a mini-fig driving it

Wolf made a "cute, simple car that rolls fast and far."

Week 2 was a monochromatic theme. We learned that this means all one color.

Vladdie made a green sled using 3 pieces only because he admired how simple Wolfie's car from week1 was.

Wolfie reports, "This is an all green subtitle which says hi!"

Week three was themed vessel, which could be a watercraft, an airship, something that holds things (like a bowl), or even a blood vessel!

Wolfie informs us, "I made a tiny cute boat. It is like a raft with a sail."

Vladdie made a boat with a motor and a sail. It has a bucket on the side for catching fish. "I chose a red background for nice weather because a red sky at night is a sailor's delight!"

We hope you will try some of these out too, it is fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Vladdie shares some of his coloring from school

Vlad has opportunities to stop and color or draw on the computer worked into his lessons. He loooooves to draw on paper, but also finds it fun to do it on the computer too. He really likes to create color combinations. Here are some of the things he has been saving to show you.

This is a picture he drew called "Minecraft Steve doesn't have any armor, duhhhhhh." It shows Steve with a golden sword, fighting a creeper and his health bar is decreasing.

This one is called "Why is everything not in the right color?"

This one was a silly version of Banbury Cross that he received for completing a lesson on the real Banbury Cross poem.

This is called "Why can't I make it up the stairs?" He made it after learning about the old man that bumped his head and went to bed. He apparently finds time to swim during the day as well. Probably why he sleeps so well. That and that pesky concussion we are always going on about.

Vlad hopes you enjoy it!

Back to School with a Bang!

Wolfie here!
Today we started up school again. I am so annoyed. We don't get to do anything. So I made a story that is pretty decent.

I hope you thought this was exciting for such a boooooooooring day. I wish Dad was home and I could play as much video games as I want.

A note from Vlad...
I have been playing with a new toy from Christmas called Bill Ding. Here is what I made with Mom!
